The Thunderstorm monologue Essay Example For Students

The Thunderstorm monologue Essay A monologue from the play by August Strindberg NOTE: This monologue is reprinted from Plays by August Strindberg, vol. 3. Trans. Edwin Bjorkman. New York: Charles Scribner\s Sons, 1913. MASTER: I thought I heard the little stepsthose little steps that came tripping down the corridor when she was looking for me. It was the child that was the best of all! To watch that fearless little creature, whom nothing could frighten, who never suspected that life might be deceptive, who had no secrets! I recall her first experience of the malice that is in human beings. She caught sight of a pretty child down in the park, and, though it was strange to her, she went up to it with open arms to kiss itand the pretty child rewarded her friendliness by biting her on the cheek first and then making a face at her. Then you should have seen my little Anne-Charlotte. She stood as if turned to stone. And it wasn\t pain that did it, but horror at the sight of that yawning abyss which is called the human heart. I have been confronted with the same sight myself once, when out of two beautiful eyes suddenly shot strange glances as if some evil beast had appeared behind those eyes. It scared me literally so that I had to see if some other person were standing behind that face, which looked like a mask. Buty why do we sit here talking about such things? Is it the heat, or the storm, or what?

Pollution and Environment free essay sample

These all have the motto to conserve the wildlife. Than for saving the environment steps were also taken after holding the different conferences like Rio conference in Brazil, CANCUN in Mexico, EUEC [energy utility environment conference] in USA etc. But now the situation says that these were not at all successful in their motto because the rate of extinction of wildlife and deteortation of environment is much faster than their conservation measures and this shows our seriousness towards it. Now day by day the list of endangered species are increasing like tiger, panda, cheetah, jaguar etc which were abundant before some 25 to 30 years ago while some of them are at the verge of extinction and some became extinct like North African elephant, Quagga etc. Now take another component as environment which is suffering from severe degradation due to many unbalanced human activities like deforestation, mining, pollution[soil, water, air] etc. Soil is degrading due to the use of several hazardous chemicals like insecticide, pesticide etc while water is degrade ding due to disposal of organic and inorganic wastes into the water bodies like river, pond, sea etc especially now a day’s sea is contaminating due to heavy disposal of oils in it that is known as oil spilling which severely degrades the flora and fauna of sea creatures and air is contaminating by the emission of several harmful gases like co2, so2, CH4, co, NO2 etc which comes out through the vehicles and factories etc. Emission of these gases also causing global warming in which the Earths atmospheric temperature increases because these gases forms a blanket like layer in the atmosphere which does not permits the sun rays to return back from the earth surface which causes heating effect and due to this, in past 100 years the Earths temperature is increased by 0. 8c which serves as a potential threat to the coastal areas due rise in sea level after melting of glaciers and also due to some harmful gases known as chlorofluorocarbon our ozone layer is depleting which saves the living being from the harmful effect of you. V rays which comes through the sun light. What all these animals have in common is that they all enjoy the earth that we live on. We as human must share the planet with these animals and it is our responsibility to save wildlife animals from destruction. Animals in the wild face many dangers in today’s environment. Every day, they must battle humans who are trying to destroy their home. When loggers cut down trees, they are not only killing the timber but also cutting down wildlife species homes. Many animals live in the Amazon forest and rely on the special plants and trees in those forests to survive. When humans take it away from them, animals no longer have any place to live. We must also prevent hunters from taking more then they need. Many people are now killing elephants to take their ivory. They are using the ivory to sell specially made crafts on the black market. These pieces sell for hundreds of dollars, thus giving the poacher a big profit. In addition to elephant ivory, poachers have been killing rhinos for their horns as well. They are able to make special daggers with the rhino horn that sells for thousands of dollars around the world. Pollution of the air also affects animals in the wild. Since so many people around the world drives cars, all the exhaust from the automobiles go into the air and causes the air we breathe to be dirty. If it is dirty for humans, then it must be dirty for animals as well. There are many things that people can do to help animals. One of the easiest ways to help wildlife animals is to not litter. By not littering, we are able to keep our communities beautiful and clean. That helps animals because the pollution does not get very bad. That way, all the birds and animals out there in the national parks will be able to continue to breathe fresh air and live long and healthy lives. Another way that you can help save wildlife is to not purchase illegal animals as pets. Many people spend money buying exotic animals because they think that it is cool to have a tiger as a pet. But all this does is harming the animals and harms the environment. Another advantage to keep our environment clean is for its physical features. Keeping the outside world looking nice and healthy would make a great difference in everyday life. Being in a healthy environment in general would improve peoples’ ways of living. If everyone put some effort into keeping the environment clean each day, I believe it would make a big difference. Other people think otherwise, such as the reasons that I am about to share with you. Some believe that people wouldn’t want to help clean and protect the environment because it takes up a lot of time. People would much rather do other things than to care for something that’s just going to get trashed again. What they don’t realize is that if everyone does a little something for the environment every day, there would be great changes in the world, or country. Finance is another big deal with this situation. People are not going to want to pay for machinery or other tools to help save and neaten up our environment. They would rather spend their money on more important things. The environment is our surroundings. There are trees, herbal plants flower, waterfalls, forests, mountains, water, air etc . Every people can’t live without this environment. All of us want this environment to spend our life. So we get many things from environment. Example water, trees, air etc. If you clean this surroundings  all of us can healthy and strong life. So we must clean our environment. But today’s population are increasing. This population live with environment. So day by day, the people destroy this environment. Specially, I want to tell about the air pollution. In our country, have many industries. So these industries throw chemicals and vessels. In this case, collect lot of carbon dioxide air then pollute environment. So many people put garbage to the water. Sometimes this activity does industries. They put their garbage, chemicals to this water. We can get much information regarding this  from T. V and newspapers. So what happened this case pollute the water. Many times the fishes are killed. It will be poisonous. And also many people set fire to chine cultivating. It pollutes the environment . We can see so many garbage on road sides. Villagers collect the garbage and they use this garbage as their plants. So if you pollute this environment we  will not be able to grow foods. Besides that, the importance of a clean nd healthy environment in tourism and the effects of tourism on our physical environment should be a consideration to all travellers. Whether we realize it or not, we all damage the Earth when travelling. But what can people do to offset this problem? Think about when you hike. Probably youve seen many plastic bottles and trash on the trail or in the forest. When this occurs, the environment is damaged. For these items t o break down and decompose, it could take up to hundreds of years. In the meantime, an animal may come along and try to eat it, thus injuring or suffocating the animal, thereby killing an innocent victim. In addition, when hikers hike, mountain climb and  camp in national parks, they must bring all waste outside the park to dispose of it. This means bodily waste as well, believe or not. National parks are so strict that hikers bring their own baggies for excrement and then dispose of them in trash bins later. This proves that anything people leave in a protected, natural area can actually destroy it. A clean environment guarantees a healthy life. The place we live determines the state of our health. A dirty, mosquito prone environment, air polluted area will certainly endanger our health. Clean up your environment always, destroy all containers that could breed mosquito, and avoid a highly industrialized area. These areas will certainly be polluted with industrial waste. Cleanliness is next to godliness. Maintain a clean environment and hence maintain a healthy living. It is very important to take care about our environment because our health directly depends on the health of our environment. It is very easy to find dirt and pollution at many places across the world and large population of world is living in such bad and unhygienic conditions. People are drinking unclean drinking water and they are breathing polluted air; so, this pollution of environment is causing many people to suffer from various health problems. Whereas if we live in a clean environment then we can live a healthy life and we can achieve this by understanding the importance of clean environment. It is very important for every individual in this world to understand that clean environment is very important for health of all human being. Any kind of pollution which is causing damage to environment is equally bad for whole humanity. Today various kind of serious health problems like cancer are increasing fast across the world and main reason behind the increase of these health problems is increasing pollution of our environment. Today, we see a slight awareness in masses about increasing pollution levels and therefore, we are seeing some actions from all wakes of life; however, still lots of work is required to be done by all of us to have a clean and healthy environment. First step in this campaign is to make people aware about importance of clean environment and how it can help us in remaining healthy.

Sample Disclaimer For Essay

Sample Disclaimer For EssayA sample disclaimer for essay is to write what is known as a 'common knowledge disclaimer'. It will list the all-too-common facts that are not so common. However, it will mention them as if they were nothing. Common knowledge is just common sense and something people should know before entering the examination. The disclaimer must state clearly that the author has not engaged in any research or homework work for the essay and that he or she has never consulted the good ole-fashioned library to get it out of the way. Some other writing tip that a sample disclaimer for essay can give is to let readers know that the author understands the complexity of the written essay and is prepared to answer questions that may arise.A disclaimer for essay must also not state anything that would alter the applicant's scores in the paper or certificate. This includes telling applicants that they have to write essays that have accurate information, grammatical errors and spell ing errors. Such errors can make one scores lower. Some sample disclaimers for essay can actually advise against such situations. All basic points should be stated briefly, succinctly. Every paragraph of the disclaimer must come at the beginning of the essay, even if it is a sentence or two. That is to say, there is nothing wrong with including a disclaimer for essay at the end of an essay. One of the major points that can be included in a disclaimer for essay is that most applicants and winners are rather anxious to receive the prize and do not want to wait for the paper to be written. This is not a good sign, and one must take note. A sample disclaimer for essay is the best way to avoid these kinds of concerns.A sample disclaimer for essay can also ask applicants to pay attention to spelling and grammar mistakes when it comes to the writing. Some examples include: the paragraph does not begin with the letters isn't'. Then, the comma after the word 'n't' is omitted and the sentence e nds with an extra 'o's.A sample disclaimer for essay is very important, and one cannot overlook it. If a student receives his paper during the waiting period, he needs to realize that he should consult his professor about it and not share it with anyone. A disclaimer for essay will serve to show applicants that their paper is something they did not do to help themselves.

10 Exploratory Essay Topics on Earthquake Prediction

10 Exploratory Essay Topics on Earthquake Prediction You have been asked to write an exploratory essay on whether earthquakes are predictable or not. Even though you have over 15 websites open in your window for reference, you can’t seem to dig up anything meaningful. Fret not, today is your lucky day because we are going discuss an extensive three-part guide on the subject. In this section, you’ll find ten very informative facts on earthquake prediction while the next section is titled 20 topics on earthquake prediction for an exploratory essay, will help you select a good topic. There’s also a sample essay on one of those topics and finally, the third part of this guide discusses how to write the essay itself. We assure going through this guide, your exploratory essay will be exceptional and help you get full credit. Here are 10 facts on earthquake prediction for an exploratory essay:   Ã‚  Ã‚  To this day, there hasn’t been a system that can predict an earthquake, big or small, with 100% accuracy. Too often predictions have been labelled false alarms. The false-alarm label has made it very difficult to differentiate a particular detection system that shows real-time and accurate predictions rather than those relying on chance or estimates.   Ã‚  Ã‚  The elements leading up to an earthquake are multidimensional. Therefore, it is important to factor in space, magnitude and time-related aspects of the earthquake. It is important to come up with forecasts that are based on a probabilistic analysis because of the uncertainty in prediction parameters. It is not feasible that the predictions are deterministic; the forecast of seismicity should be based on statistical analysis. Even if the forecast is deterministic, it is important that its evaluation should be statistical to remove any possibilities of coincidence.   Ã‚  Ã‚  One very important parameter that needs to be considered during an earthquake forecast is the focal mechanism. According to a US Geological survey by Dziewonski, Ekstrom Salganik done in 1996, the Forecasts of modern day earthquake cataloguing should include information collected from seismic moment tensor inversions. Focal mechanisms along with time-space-size are all very important parameters of an earthquake. Through them, we can calculate low-frequency seismograms or static deformation of an event.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Among all the proposed methods for the prediction of earthquakes, there is a lack of quantitative theory, therefore, they should all be considered as empirical methods. Some of these methods are earthquake clustering, seismicity variations, changes in seismic velocities, anomalous animal behavior, precursory strain, hydrological signals, and variations in geochemical and electromagnetic signals. One of these methods can be considered a quantitative forecasting method, and that’s earthquake clustering.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Quantitative methods can predict earthquakes far more efficiently because it’s an intricate process. Global tectonic gives us information about the strain accumulation on plate boundaries, and through various geological and geodetic methods, tectonic deformation can be measured. Another quantitative method is studying the low and state frequency deformation which occurs in faraway fields due to earthquakes through the linear elasticity theory, resulting in the prediction of earthquakes, because we are able to study the accumulated strain of earthquake.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Earthquake predictions are done for a few months, a year to a decade or beyond a decade. These timescales depend on the earthquake mitigation measures or the technique used. Seismicity has an invariant scale, that’s why it’s not possible to define a real-time temporal feature scale of earthquakes. There are, however, two physical scales; the first one is connected to the propagation of earthquakes and elastic waves and the second one is about the velocity of tectonic deformation. The first scale comprises seconds or tenths of seconds due to the focal area size and the zone of extreme shaking, while the second one comprises decades or even millenniums because it’s taken from the accumulated strain mostly released by the largest earthquakes.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Evaluation of earthquake predictions should also have a comparative test of null hypothesis in it so that coincidences and chance based results can be disregarded. Temporal clustering of seismicity and spatial variations should be included in the null hypothesis. It is much easier to devise null hypothesis for extreme earthquakes because their clustering is weak for at least a couple of years. Therefore, the Poisson process can at times work on behalf of null hypothesis. Though the spatial inhomogeneity of the epicenter of earthquake does create problems in the process of evaluation.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Computer simulations of earthquakes haven’t proven to be of much help either. The calculations of fluid dynamics can be cross-referenced with the actual velocity field. While simulated synthetic earthquakes may catalogue, it needs to be matched with the real one. The problem is the spontaneous nature of seismicity; the mathematical calculations of earthquake occurrence can only be done in statistical terms. If the computer is to model seismicity, it needs to have synthetic sequence which has the same statistical characteristics of a real earthquake with respect to time and space. This is where the real problem develops.   Ã‚  Ã‚  We now have the computing power and the capability to calculate mass calculations of seismic moment tensor. We can also monitor the connection of stress tensors with earthquake. Recent studies have shown that there is a relationship between stress and earthquakes. Difficulties have occurred due to the translation into the designs of stress accumulation, earthquakes and stress tensors.   People assume that if the weather can be predicted so can the earthquakes, but there are a lot of differences. Earthquakes are asymmetric in terms of time and amount of foreshocks are very negligible. Since seismicity is asymmetric in nature, it is different from the flow of fluids which are turbulent; this is why prediction of earthquakes is more difficult than the prediction of weather. These facts will significantly help you in starting your research. There is just so much that you can write about on the subject of earthquake prediction. We can also understand if selecting a topic is giving you a tough time. Not to worry, the next part will surely give you more information to go on. Advantages and Disadvantages of Federalism essays

Advantages and Disadvantages of Federalism essays Advantages and Disadvantages of Federalism Federalism is a system where final decisions are dispersed among local governments representing specific and sometimes overlapping geographical areas. These governmental units have, as constituents, people of different social, political, moral and economic persuasions. Together with the idea of locally elected officials, self government, and diversity of interests, the federal system can be susceptible to manipulation by narrow local interests and legislation diluted by compromise at the expense of national or regional interests. On the other hand the strength of the federal system lies in its ability to provide access to governmental decision making by those affected. It provides power to all levels of government, requires political flexibility and protects individual liberty. As James Madison argues in the Federalist papers: the smaller the unit of government, the easier it would be for a single interest to dominate it. But these units in a large republic would be so many that they would actually provide more opportunities for relevant issues to be recognized and heard. The system of federal government has, therefore, resulted in a disparity in equality and participation. Citizens are treated differently depending on where they live and the dominating sentiments. Criteria for welfare, legal sanctions, spending programs are quite different among the states and sometimes even among counties. Thus, it was not wholly irrational that blacks were treated differently in the south than in the north, even after emancipation. But these differences are a result of participation in the decision-making process, albeit for conflicting and opposite results. On the up side, there is a competition of sorts among the states in the area of public policy, a market place of social experimentation. Some states are far ahead than others in changing social policy to serve the needs of it ...

Bullying in American Schools Assignment Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words - 1

Bullying in American Schools - Assignment Example According to Vossekuil et al. (2002), the analysis of school shooters in the U.S. (from 1974 to 2002) by Secret Service revealed that the shooters were the victim of chronic bullying (Espelage and Swearer 2). This shows that school violence is rooted in the experience of bullying (Espelage and Swearer 2). Moreover, the negative psychological outcomes of bullying were found to be common among all the victims and bullies (Espelage and Swearer 2). A study by Nansel et al. (2001) has revealed that there are major long term negative effects of bullying that prove detrimental for both, the victims and the bullies (Marsh et al. 66). According to Olweus, the negative outcomes of bullying like â€Å"peer rejection, delinquent behavior, criminality, depression, psychological disturbance, further violence in school† and suicidal tendency, continue in adulthood of both, the victims and perpetrators of bullying (Marsh et al. 66). This shows that bullying not only destroys the lives of the victims but also affects the lives of the perpetrators negatively. Hence, intervention at right time is essential. Intervention Studies have found that â€Å"bullying does not occur in isolation† but is a result of the complex relationship between the individual and his social elements like family, peer group, school, community, culture etc., and is encouraged by individual’s interaction with his social environment (Espelage and Swearer 3).

An analyss of The Four Seasons Hotel Guangzhou Essay

An analyss of The Four Seasons Hotel Guangzhou - Essay Example The Pearl River city is China’s economic pillar because it performs better economically in China. Ideally, this hotel’s location is a breathtaking cite as it offers a perfect view of the Pearl River Delta. The hotel also occupies the seventy-fourth to the ninety-eight floors totaling to almost thirty floors. Remarkably, the hotel boasts of having a twenty-four hour operational centre with executive club lounge facilities. With all these attributes in mind, the objective of this paper will be to analyze and evaluate the Strategic decision making for the Four Seasons Hotel. It will illustrate the design of the strategy, the implementation of the proposed strategy by factoring in the implications of the intended management change. Finally, it will evaluate the risks of the strategically choice and its performance. Various analysis models to ascertain the company’s current position 1. The PEST analysis The PEST analysis in business is the entails the Political, the E conomic, the Social, and the Technological factors that influence the external components of strategic management and market research (Griffin, 2010, p. 127). It helps a business to understand its market growth and potential in order for it to make advancements in its finances (Kayne, 2005, p. 227). Therefore, this part of the report will give explanations on the entire four components concerning Guangzhou Hotel. a) Political factor Essentially, the political factors refer to the level of government participation in its economy. These factors include taxes, labor laws, and trade regulations. In this case, China’s greatest political factor is being among the few remaining communist states in the world. China is a single party state in that property ownership is public. This is the fundamental rule in the communist form of leadership. This serves an advantage to the hotel since the chances of the hotel running bankrupt are relatively low. For instance, the government has the ri ght s to intervene in all financial aspects of the hotel enabling it to continue being the best performer in the hospitality market. Secondly, the Guangzhou Four Seasons hotel enjoys the government policy on taxation for foreign companies where they were to pay twenty-five percent income taxes (Brown, 2010, p. 16). The foreign company policy mentioned that they had to pay a twenty-five percent income. The fact that this tax implementation plan was gradual meant that Four Seasons hotel had adequate time to administer the government policy. b) Economic factors This is the second factor, which encompasses economic development, currency rates, and interest rates (Kayne, 2005, p. 231). The basic aspect of this factor is the ability to influence business functions and decision-making. As per this hotel’s setting, the economic factors crucially make them inevitable. In this regard, China’s economic growth dwindled in a scope of three years making the rates of investments bein g substantially low. This meant that the hospitality industry felt the strain, as there was little access to hotel facilities by both foreigners and locals. The business cycle dropped to a low of almost eight percent (BBC, 2012). The demands by the consumers decreased drastically as the main target for the Hotel were the foreign business guests who frequented the hotel. In addition, the exchange rate policy imposed by the government translated
